ALOR GAJAH, June 14 (Bernama) -- More than 6,000 serving and former personnel of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) have benefited from the Veteran MyWira Programme since 2024, aimed at enhancing employability across various industries, including high-tech sectors.

Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said over  140 ATM veterans have secured placements in sectors such as semiconductors, advanced manufacturing, security, education and aviation.

Implemented in collaboration with Talent Corporation Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) under the Human Resources Ministry, the programme equips personnel and veterans with skills in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to meet industry demands and improve earning potential.

“We are exploring various applications of AI to empower veterans, not only in terms of health and welfare but, more importantly, to improve their socio-economic standing.

“In the past, we assessed veterans’ capabilities only after they left the service. Now, we begin identifying their strengths, training needs and potential career paths two years before retirement,” he said after officiating the Alor Gajah parliamentary-level Jelajah AI MyMahir (JAM),

Adly said the Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (Perhebat) identifies 500 veterans annually for employment prospect studies to support a more structured and sustainable transition into second careers.

Earlier, in a statement TalentCorp said the Alor Gajah edition was the 10th stop of the JAM programme, attracting nearly 300 entrepreneurs, students and ATM veterans.

The agency said the roadshow will cover 60 parliamentary constituencies nationwide, targeting 12,000 participants.

“JAM introduces participants to AI fundamentals, prompt engineering, AI ethics and the application of AI in work, learning, careers and business.

“It also focuses on AI for productivity, career development, small and medium enterprises, freelancing and personal growth,” read the statement.
