Kelantan AKM: MOSTI promotes interest in STEM with fun activities, games

KOTA BHARU, July 24 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) is holding various fun activities and games at the Malaysian Family Aspirations Tour (AKM) to promote interest in Science, Technology and Mathematics (STEM), especially among students.

MOSTI Strategic Planning Division assistant secretary Normala Alias said one such game popular among visitors is the metal wire puzzle which requires players to separate two pieces of metal that are joined together without using force or physical strength. 

"In addition to that, we also have a topology-related game that requires players to remove rope loops from the iron structure without cutting or breaking the rope," she said when met by Bernama at the MOSTI booth at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, here today.

He said visitors from all walks of life were also interested to participate in the activity to build solar robots, similar to the Lego building games, adding if they succeeded in building the robots, they are allowed to take them home.

“For AKM Kelantan Tour we brought 50 sets of robot kits and only one set is still available as the rest of the robots have been successfully built and brought home by visitors," she added.

Normala said MOSTI expected about 6,000 people to visit its booth during the three-day AKM Tour which started Friday, adding that as of yesterday it had recorded a total of 5,000 visitors.

A visitor, Nik Amani Hanani Nik Abdul Hadi, 20 from Wakaf Che Yeh said she was surprised that the MOSTI booth had so many fun games for visitors to try, adding that she was excited after she managed to solve the metal wire puzzle.

The nursing student said she hoped the AKM Tour will be held more often so that people could get more exposure to STEM-related activities.
