KUALA LUMPUR, June 18 (Bernama) – The National Architectural Design Policy is being developed to enhance architectural designs that reflect Malaysia's identity.

Board of Malaysian Architects (LAM) president, Datuk Azman Md Hashim said ongoing efforts are being made to promote designs that authentically embody Malaysia's architectural and cultural heritage.

“At LAM, we advocate for designs that represent Malaysia's identity. Our goal is for each building to reflect Malaysia's distinct design identity.

“We are opposed to importing designs from foreign countries into Malaysia and labeling them as 'Malaysian design'. Our stance is rooted in preserving our own cultural identity.

“As such, we are in the process of drafting the National Architectural Design Policy to ensure that developments and buildings are not only competitive but also distinctly Malaysian,” he said when appearing as a guest on Bernama Radio’s Jendela Fikir programme today.

Azman emphasised that LAM plays a crucial role beyond registering aspiring architects or interior designers, it also issues Certificates of Completion and Compliance for projects.

"The certificates we issue ensure that projects meet impeccable standards before certification. This reflects LAM's diverse objectives, with a primary focus on safeguarding the safety and interests of the public," he said.

Azman also reminded the public to be cautious of social media advertisements for architectural or interior design services, as they may involve 'illegal activities' by irresponsible partie

“If we encounter such promotional ads ... they are often created by individuals unauthorised to offer interior design services or architectural designs. We'll take strong action against these practices," he said.
