LENGGONG, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The organisation of the Heritage and Patriotic Tourism Festival Lenggong Perak 2024, the first of its kind in Malaysia, seeks to highlight the unique potential of Lenggong as a destination that combines historical learning with fostering the spirit of patriotism.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the organisation of this programme is not only timely in conjunction with the National Month, but is very significant in the context of patriotism and national identity.

“As an opening event to the 67th National Day celebrations, this festival provides a platform to inject and strengthen the spirit of love for the motherland among Malaysians," he said in his speech at the opening of the festival here today.

Also present at the event was VAT69 Commando Veterans Association president Datuk Abd Rashid Harun.

Saarani said that through a concept that combines two main aspects, namely the preservation of cultural heritage and fostering the spirit of patriotism, tourists can not only see artifacts and old buildings, but also feel the pulse of the struggle of their ancestors.

He said the festival was not just an introduction to a new tourism concept; it is also an injection of enthusiasm and inspiration for the local tourism industry as well as promises unique and priceless experiences.

“Participants will not only be witnesses, but will also be pioneers in exploring a new dimension of tourism that combines elements of heritage and patriotism. This experience will definitely shape a new perspective for them on the value of history and the spirit of love for the country, as well as being a catalyst for innovation in the tourism sector in the future."

Meanwhile, the three-day programme which kicked off yesterday in Amazing Camp Legacy here includes archaeological site exploration, traditional handicraft workshops, survival simulations and cultural shows.

Participants will experience ‘survival' or trying to live in the forest land earning how to set  traps, start a fire or cook, testing their mental and physical strength.

There will also be a patriot talk, which is a sharing of experiences by those who have contributed towards the country's sovereignty.

The programme was also attended by VAT69 Commando veterans, retired police officers as well as veterans of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) who acted as trainers.
