KANGAR, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bintong here translated the spirit of patriotism in conjunction with the celebration of the National Independence Month and Malaysia Day by installing a 'giant' 21.9-metre by 4.5-metre high Jalur Gemilang flag at the school today.

The headmaster of the school, Zairi Bakar, said that the large Jalur Gemilang was produced by joining 60 pieces of Jalur Gemilang that were sewn by the school's teachers themselves, and sewing of the Jalur Gemilang started at the beginning of August and was successfully completed last week.

He said the idea of making a difference for this year's celebration for SK Bintong was to create a new attraction for the students of the school and at the same time give a deep impression to them to love this country more.

“The idea started during discussion between teachers and staff, as we wanted to try something that can have an impact on students. The flags were bought with the donations of teachers and school staff,” he said.

He said this to reporters after the launch of the National Independence Month celebrations at the SK Bintong level and the 'giant' Jalur Gemilang today which was officiated by Perlis Education Department’s Deputy Director of Education (Student Development) Che Rasaidi Che Yob.

Zairi said the Jalur Gemilang will be installed until Malaysia Day which falls on Sept 16.

Meanwhile, the school's students, Nur Fathiya Aisya Mohd Faizal, 11, and Iftinan Rafeeza Radzuan, 11, said they were so excited to see the Jalur Gemilang of such a large size that it had raised their spirit to appreciate and love the country more.

They said when the 'Jalur Gemilang' song was played while looking at the 'giant' Jalur Gemilang, they also imagined and thought about the hardship and perseverence of former leaders like the Father of Independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj to gain independence of this country.

“When you listen to the 'Jalur Gemilang' song and see the big flag at the same time, I feel the spirit of celebrating Independence (National Day), I feel happy to be a Malaysian, I imagine the former leaders who wanted to achieve independence, I remember their kindness,” said Nur Fathiya Aisya.

“I feel happy today when looking at this big flag, I feel enthusiastic, I also feel lucky to be a Malaysian, when I hear the 'Jalur Gemilang' song with this big flag, it makes me feel more appreciative of this country,” said Iftinan Rafeeza.
