ALOR SETAR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- The adoption of rules and road safety advocacy will be the main focus of the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) Santuni MADANI programme.

JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said it was in line with the department’s role and aims to reduce deaths and injuries due to road accidents by at least 50 per cent by 2030.

“The Santuni MADANI – One Leader One Village programme is a special programme introduced by Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) as an effort to boost the potential of villages and communities’ capabilities through continuous engagement and periodic monitoring.

“JPJ is one of the earliest departments and have started our first Santuni MADANI programme today in an effort to empower the socioeconomic standards of villagers through road safety advocacy in the community,” he said at a media conference after officiating the programme at Kampung Alor Senjaya here today.

The department has lined up specific road safety programmes, including motorcycle checks, safety helmet swaps, JPJ Mobile counter services and health checks, he said, adding that the programme involved strategic partnerships with the Kedah state development office, the Kedah Information Department, the Kota Setar district health office, the federal village safety and development committee and the Alor Senjaya Village community.
