KOTA KINABALU, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Residents, especially in and around this city, did not miss the opportunity to purchase various dry and fresh goods to meet their family's needs during the MADANI Rakyat 2024 Sayangi Sabah programme here.

The MADANI Rahmah Sales and MADANI Agro Sales programme tent, open since Friday, continued to attract the public who have been visiting the three-day programme that ends today at the Likas Sports Complex grounds.

The Agro MADANI Sales division, through the Sabah Farmers' Organisation Authority (LPP) booth, which was selling 10-kilogramme (kg) bags of rice at RM24, was filled with visitors wanting to purchase this basic essential because they considered the price to be cheaper compared to the market.

Retired government employee George Seep, 60, from Papar, said he bought six bags of rice as he was excited with the prices, which allowed him to making savings.

“The price of rice being sold in this programme is cheaper compared to the normal market price. Very worth it… and I hope programmes like these will be held again," he said to Bernama.

Meanwhile, housewife Yana Nia, 34, from Sepanggar, also did not miss this cheap sale opportunity by buying five 10 kg bags of rice for her family's use which could last about two months/

The mother of three said such sales programmes continue to be very helpful for the people to make savings, especially with the rising cost of living.

In the meantime, Sabah LPP production and business unit head Azlee Shah Abdullah said his team had prepared 20,000 10 kg-bags of rice to be sold at the MADANI Rakyat 2024 Sayangi Sabah programme, in addition to chicken prcied at at RM8 a kg.

“It is hoped that there will be more MADANI Agro Sales, especially during festive seasons, as it greatly helps the people of Sabah to get items at lower prices than usual," he said.

Apart from the Sabah LPP, the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM) also was offering fresh fish such as mackerel, kerisi and basung at a low price of RM7 per kg, as well as other fish products including keropok lekor produced by the Tuaran Area Fishermen's Association.

LKIM marketing and licensing division assistant director Muhammad Alif Abd Aziz said the sales of fish were very encouraging as more than 500 kg of fish were sold during the three-day programme.

"We (LKIM) hope that there will be more sales programmes like this to support our fishermen’s associations, whether state-level or local-level associations, so that they can generate more income while helping the people obtain fish supplies at reasonable prices," he added.
