Kelantan's GDP Rises To RM27.6 Bln In 2023, Driven By Service Sector Growth - MB

KOTA BHARU, Nov 17 (Bernama) — Kelantan's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 2.6 per cent to RM27.6 billion in 2023 compared to RM26.9 billion in the previous year, said Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

He attributed the growth primarily to the service sector, which expanded by 3.8 per cent and contributed RM19.8 billion.

“However, the agriculture sector contracted by 0.5 per cent due to a decline in the forestry and logging subsector.

“The manufacturing sector also shrank by 2.6 per cent, impacted by reduced output in electrical, electronic and optical products as well as wood, furniture, paper and printing products. The construction sector grew by 6.7 per cent, largely driven by special trade construction activities,” he said.

Mohd Nassuruddin said this during an engagement session on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) with the Kelantan government at Kompleks Kota Darulnaim today. Also present was Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli.

According to Mohd Nassuruddin, Kelantan targets a GDP value of RM50 billion within the next decade, focusing on the manufacturing and tourism sectors.

“Key enablers and variables essential to achieving this target must be addressed accordingly.

“The outcomes of these initiatives will lead to widespread employment opportunities, improved living standards and poverty eradication in Kelantan,” he added.
