KUALA KRAI, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- A total of 95 students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Keroh here were ferried by boats from the Civil Defence Force (APM) and the police to cross the Kuala Nal River today.
Kuala Krai District Civil Defence Officer Kapt Abd Fatah Abd Aziz said all Form 1 to Form 3 students residing at the school hostel will be allowed to return home following the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination which begins tomorrow.
"The operation was carried out at 12.47 pm to bring the students home in Kampung Pasir Kelang who had to cross the Kuala Nal River using two APM boats and a police boat. All of them reached their respective homes safely at 3.40 pm today," he told Bernama today.
Elaborating further, Abd Fatah said his team also brought two SPM students from Kampung Ladang Taku using a boat to cross the Kuala Nal River at 10.47 am.
He said all of them were sent to SMK Sultan Yahya Petra 1 here to sit for the SPM 2024 Malay language speaking test which is scheduled to start from tomorrow till Thursday.
Earlier, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said all SPM candidates affected by the floods would be placed in dormitories or mobilised to alternative examination centres, to ensure that all candidates can comfortably sit for the examinations according to the set schedule.
A total of 5,377 SPM candidates were identified as affected by the floods, namely 3,111 candidates in Kelantan, Terengganu (1,734 candidates) and Kedah (532 candidates).
