KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), through URBANICE Malaysia, aims to create 50 more community spaces in the People's Housing Programme (PPR) next year.
Its Minister, Nga Kor Ming said that, so far, 50 community spaces have been provided in several PPRs nationwide.
"Next year, the ministry will step up efforts to create PPR community spaces. If motorcycle parking areas were previously filled with rubbish, we will now transform the area and upgrade it to become a comfortable, green community space that can be used as an activity space for residents,” he said.
He said this at a media conference after officiating the launch of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in conjunction with the Jelajah Sentuhan Kejayaan KPKT 2024 here today.
Nga said the initiative is the KPKT's commitment to ensuring urban residents have healthier, happier and more productive quality of life and well-being, besides making PPRs more habitable.
He also said that the maintenance of PPRs nationwide, which involves an allocation of RM185 million, is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
Nga added that the maintenance work involved improving facilities, such as upgrading lifts and lights, repainting the buildings and replacing damaged floors.
