KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) – The National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) Campus Tour will likely be extended to polytechnics next year, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said.
Nur-ul Afida, who is 2024 HAWANA Working Committee Chairman, said it was part of the suggestions to improve HAWANA's activities and programmes next year.
"Maybe we can share the various skills we have in Bernama, like photography, graphic design and all that… and the minister (Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil) has agreed that whatever knowledge that can benefit students be expanded.
“We will discuss the matter in detail at a meeting with department heads later. Maybe early next year, we can arrange and list the programmes we can do that might be in conjunction with Malaysia taking over the chairmanship of ASEAN,” she told reporters at the 2024 HAWANA Appreciation Event here today.
The event was also attended by Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who serves as the 2024 HAWANA project director, and Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief Nasriah Darus, the head of the 2024 HAWANA promotion and publicity committee.
The 2024 HAWANA Campus Tour, held for the first time this year, ended on Dec 12 after visits to several public institutions of higher learning in six zones in the country.
Nur-ul Afida described the tour as a huge success, as students not only benefitted from interactive workshops on the digital world and journalism, but also from donations of high-end computers and smart televisions to several universities.
HAWANA, which is celebrated annually on May 29 to honour the contributions of media practitioners, has also launched the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA fund. This initiative assists journalists and media personnel facing health challenges or requiring support.
Nur-ul Afida also reiterated Bernama’s commitment as the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA secretariat and stressed that they would continue to provide aid to journalists and media practitioners in need through the fund.
On today’s event, she said it was held as a sign of appreciation to all those involved throughout the organisation of HAWANA 2024 programmes.
