BANTING, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) is set to launch a programme next year under the 'Satu Pemimpin Satu Kampung' (Santuni MADANI) initiative, aimed at introducing secondary school students to the world of journalism.

Its Management Services and Finance head Sharifah Zaini Syed Zain said this programme is part of the plans laid out by the agency to fill activity slots within the Santuni MADANI programme.

"This is one of our plans, where we will send our staff, especially from the creative writing and multimedia desk, to ignite interest among secondary school students in experiencing the world and duties of a journalist.

"Perhaps some of them might be interested in pursuing a career in journalism," she told Bernama after closing the Santuni MADANI programme held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Batu Laut, Tanjung Sepat here today.

Sharifah Zaini, who is also Santuni MADANI Programme II deputy chief, said that as part of next year's plans, Bernama will also visit primary schools to help improve students' literacy and learning.

Sharifah Zaini said Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin emphasised the importance of focusing on education as the core of the Santuni MADANI programme.

"Nur-ul Afida once again suggested that Bernama place a key focus on education for the Santuni MADANI programme. As I mentioned earlier, most of our activities are centred around education," she added.

Meanwhile, Sharifah Zaini said a Canva workshop and a cyber threat briefing were conducted at the school today.

"The Basic Canva Workshop, conducted by Bernama staff, and the briefing, by a representative from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), marked the closing activities for 2024. This time, we are collaborating with MCMC, and for next year's activities, we will be partnering with other agencies," she explained.

A total of 40 students from SMK Batu Laut attended the workshop, while 60 students participated in the briefing.
