KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- Maxis, Malaysia’s leading integrated telecommunications provider, has partnered with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) to jointly develop 5G solutions, with a focus on innovation in healthcare and education.
In a statement today, Maxis said in healthcare, potential 5G-enabled solutions could include remote surgery (telesurgery), advanced telemedicine, remote consultations, and real-time health monitoring.
In the education sector, the collaboration aims to develop solutions to enhance the learning experience, including immersive environments and interactive content delivery.
“Beyond healthcare and education, we may also develop joint solutions in areas such as cybersecurity, green technology, and smart campus initiatives, leveraging Maxis’ network infrastructure,” the statement read.
The collaboration was formalised through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), with UTAR President Prof Datuk Dr Ewe Hong Tat and Maxis’ Chief Enterprise Business Officer Prateek Pashine representing the respective organisations.
Maxis added that the collaboration builds on prior initiatives by Maxis Business, which has been a digital partner of choice, offering end-to-end connectivity and connectivity-plus solutions to accelerate the adoption of 5G and 5G-Advanced technologies by businesses in Malaysia.
Prateek expressed pride in collaborating with UTAR, saying that both organisations would explore the vast possibilities enabled by 5G technology.
“Healthcare and education are critical sectors that require future-ready ideas, and industry-academia collaborations like this are key to accelerating innovation.
"Through Maxis Business, we look forward to enabling 5G solutions that will transform healthcare delivery and educational environments, making them more dynamic, accessible and personalised,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ewe said the partnership aligns with UTAR’s commitment to fostering research and innovation to address pressing needs in healthcare and education.
“I am delighted that UTAR is collaborating with Maxis on this innovative journey to develop cutting-edge 5G solutions. By leveraging the combined strengths of academia and industry, we can co-create transformative solutions that contribute to technological advancements and societal progress,” he said.
Previously, in 2019, UTAR selected Maxis to provide high-speed internet services and connectivity solutions for its campuses in Sungai Long, Selangor, and Kampar, Perak, enabling UTAR to scale up bandwidth to higher speeds seamlessly.
