ISKANDAR PUTERI, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- Friday prayers can now be performed at 20 additional surau and musolla in Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat, Mersing, Kulai, Muar, and Kota Tinggi, in line with the change of the weekend to Saturday and Sunday starting this year in Johor.
State Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid said the prayer premises were 10 surau kariah, nine musolla at schools and tahfiz centres, and one musolla in an Orang Asli village.
"This decision was made with the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. The implementation takes effect from today based on the stipulated requirements and regulatory compliance.
"This move will facilitate the public, including students and employees in both public and private sectors, in performing Friday prayers," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, state Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin said that Friday prayers at nine musolla located in schools and tahfiz centres would be fully managed by the respective school administrations.
