ALOR SETAR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- An elderly man and his adopted son, believed to have been murdered on Jalan Kota Tanah in Tongkang Yard on Jan 21, were laid to rest after the Zohor prayers today.
The remains of Ibrahim Mydin, 61, and Muhammad Muslim Mohd Zaini, 23, were claimed by their respective families from the Forensic Department of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) here around 11 am.
Mohd Zaini Hashim, 63, the father of Muhammad Muslim, said his son's body, which had been bathed and shrouded at the hospital, was brought to Masjid As-Salam Tambak Bunga in Kuala Kedah for prayers before being buried after Zohor.
“Alhamdulillah, after nearly two weeks, I feel relieved that my late son can finally be laid to rest. It is a sorrowful moment, but I find peace knowing he is now at his final resting place.
"Once all funeral arrangements are complete, I will follow the progress of the case. I hope the individuals responsible will be brought to justice so that both my son and Ibrahim receive the justice they truly deserve,” he said to reporters at HSB today.
When asked if he could find it in his heart to forgive the suspects accused of killing his son, Mohd Zaini said that he would only consider forgiveness once the suspects had received the appropriate punishment for their brutal actions.
“I truly cannot accept their cruel act, but I am trying to come to terms with what has happened. I am angry, but even if I were to harm them, my son would not return,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim's son, who wished to be known only as Abdullah, 33, shared that his father was laid to rest at the Masjid Al-Ihsan Tongkang Yard cemetery.
In the tragic incident on Jan 21, Ibrahim and Muhammad Muslim were discovered burnt to death in a house fire in Tongkang Yard.
The police initially treated the incident as a standard fire case, but later reclassified it as a murder investigation after evidence pointed to criminal elements.
Subsequently, five suspects, aged between 19 and 53, including Ibrahim's nephew, were arrested. Three of the suspects tested positive for drugs, and yesterday, two of them were charged with the murder of Ibrahim and Muhammad Muslim at the Magistrate's Court.
