JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Johor government is open to covering the expenses of short courses at leading universities abroad to enhance the skills of media practitioners in the state.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said this is in line with the agenda of talent development covering various aspects, which is now the focus of the state government.
He added that it is in tandem with the commitment given by leading universities, such as the University of Oxford, Harvard University and Stanford University, in supporting talent development through strategic cooperation with the state government.
"Our door is always open and we will support (covering the costs of) short courses. As I have said, our agenda (of talent development) is very clear and we want you (the media practitioners) to become part of this agenda,” he said at the launch of the 2025 Johor Media Award (AMJ) at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre here last night.
Also present were Johor Media Club (KMJ) president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak, who is also the Gabungan Kelab Media Malaysia (GKMM) president.
Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz said the implementation of initiatives like the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) is one of the factors behind Johor remaining in the spotlight, thus opening up opportunities for collaboration with various parties, including these leading universities.
Earlier, the AMJ 2025 brought together over 300 media practitioners, government agency representatives and KMJ strategic partners aimed at strengthening the close cooperation between the state government and the media community in Johor.
The award ceremony, which saw 24 categories contested, was held to recognise the role of media practitioners in delivering accurate information, thus helping to build a positive image for the state.
