AMEM-43 Successfully Achieved 2025 PED Under Malaysia's Chairmanship - Fadillah

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The 43rd ASEAN Ministers On Energy Meeting (AMEM-43) has successfully achieved 2025 Priority Economic Deliverables (PED) and several important initiatives under Malaysia’s Chairmanship, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister said these include the endorsement of an enhanced Memorandum of Understanding on ASEAN Power Grid (APG), which aims to strengthen regional interconnection.

He said others were the endorsement of new ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Coorperation (APAEC) 2026–2030 that would serve as the region’s roadmap for the next five years and the endorsement of the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement (APSA) Successor Agreement.

“These milestones reflect ASEAN’s determination to accelerate our energy transition, towards sustainable and inclusive that leaves no Member State or community behind,” he said in his welcoming remarks at the AMEM-43 and its associated meetings and 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-25) Joint Opening Ceremony here today.

Fadillah said other PED and important initiatives achieved during AMEM-43 were the launch of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) Financing Initiative supported by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank with a combined commitment of over USD12 billion.

Also achieved, the endorsement of Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Framework for ASEAN and Nuclear Power Plant Development Framework, the finalisation of Submarine Power Cable Term of References and the Renewable Energy Long-term Roadmap.

Apart from that were the launch of the ASEAN Energy Efficiency Database and Investment Platform and the establishment of the ASEAN School of Regulation (ASR), which would be led by Malaysia.

“Looking ahead, together we as ASEAN will continue to coordinate projects, harmonise technical standards and turn plans into tangible outcomes,” he said.

Fadillah said the theme of energy sector for this year’s AMEM, “Powering ASEAN: Bridging Boundaries, Building Prosperity”, captured the ASEAN spirit of deepening integration, strengthening resilience and ensuring that every Member State benefits from energy transition.

“As host, Malaysia stands ready to work hand-in-hand with all ASEAN Member States, dialogue partners and international organisations to advance this shared vision. 

“Let us reaffirm our unity, commit to tangible and transformative outcomes, and together, propel ASEAN towards becoming a regional leader in the global energy transition,” he added.
