Over 4,000 Notices For Speed Limiter Verification Issued - Loke

23/10/2025 02:09 PM

BENTONG, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- A total of 4,295 notices of speed limiter device (SLD) installation verification have been issued to heavy vehicle owners to date, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

He said the notices were issued to ensure all heavy vehicles comply with the requirement to install the system for the safety of road users.

“When a notice is issued, vehicle owners are given 14 days to obtain verification that the SLD has been installed and return to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) for confirmation. If they comply within the stipulated period, no further action or summons will be taken,” he told reporters after officiating the new Bentong JPJ branch office here today.

Also present were State FELDA Affairs, Cooperatives and Entrepreneurs Committee chairman Datuk Amizar Abu Adam, Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman and JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.

Loke said enforcement of SLD compliance has shown positive results, with more heavy vehicle operators coming forward to install the system after notices were issued.

In addition, Loke said JPJ is actively enforcing the wearing of seat belts in express buses and buses owned by higher education institutions (IPTs).

“We have implemented enforcement for all buses equipped with seat belts, regardless of whether they belong to IPTs, express services or tour operators. As long as the bus is fitted with seat belts, compliance is mandatory,” he said.

On the new Bentong JPJ branch office, Loke said the facility, which sits on 1.5776 acres, was developed under the 11th Malaysia Plan with a construction cost of RM10.4 million.

“Construction began on March 20, 2023, under continuous monitoring by the Transport Ministry and JPJ. The building was handed over to JPJ on Aug 6 this year and began full operations on Sept 8,” he said.
