IPOH, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The results of water samples from Sungai Perak at the Kampung Sungai Papan Bridge in Gerik, which recently turned bluish and is believed to have been caused by pollution, will be known on Monday.
State Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Teh Kok Lim said the water sample was collected by the Perak Department of Environment (DOE), while further investigations are being carried out by the DOE and the Perak Department of Minerals and Geoscience (JMG).
“This is the first time such an incident has occurred, and the water sample is being analysed by the Chemistry Department, which has been instructed to expedite the analysis,” he told reporters after the Green Tech Perak 2025 Programme at the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout, Meru Raya, near here today.
Teh said that the incident is believed to have been caused by an overflow from a water retention pond following several days of heavy rain.
On Oct 21, photos of Sungai Perak at the Kampung Sungai Papan Bridge, located about five kilometres north of Kampung Air Ganda, Gerik, showing the river turning blue, went viral on Facebook.
