ISKANDAR PUTERI, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Johor Bahru has the highest number of squatter houses in Johor, accounting for more than 80 per cent of the 9,582 units recorded statewide.
State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said that based on data from the District Land Office from 2023 to September this year, the district recorded 8,059 houses across 56 settlements.
“These squatter cases involve several categories of land — state government land, federal land and land owned by developers,” he told reporters after launching the Iskandar Puteri Low Carbon Carnival here today.
He said the state government has consistently adopted a prudent approach in addressing squatter settlement issues involving local residents.
Mohd Jafni said among the measures taken was offering housing to those who have lived in Johor for more than 10 years, allowing the resettlement process to be carried out in a structured and gradual manner.
“They will be relocated in stages according to the state government’s plan,” he said, adding that firm action would be taken against illegal immigrants occupying squatter houses.
