1,514 Flood Victims Still Taking Shelter In PPS Throughout Perak and Kedah

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- A total of 1,514 flood victims in Perak and Kedah are still taking shelter at temporary relief centres (PPS) tonight.

The flood situation in PERAK continues to gradually improve, with the number of flood victims in three districts tonight further dropping to 467 people from 136 families, compared to 603 people from 183 families this evening.

According to the Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat, the number of flood victims at the PPS in Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Matang in the Larut, Matang and Selama (LMS) districts remain at 27 people from seven families, while 288 people from 83 families are housed at the PPS in SK Sungai Batu, Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai, and SK Pantai Remis in the Manjung district.

A total of 152 people from 46 families are still placed at Dewan Serbaguna Gunung Semanggol and SK Parit Haji Aman in the Kerian district.

Another PPS, that housed 110 flood victims at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Layang-Layang Kiri, Parit in the Perak Tengah district, was fully closed at 5.30 pm today.

In KEDAH, the number of flood victims increased again to 1,047 people from 311 families tonight and are housed in seven PPS, compared to 915 people from 267 families this evening.

Kedah JPBN informed that the flood victims in Pendang involve 544 people from 150 families taking shelter in three PPS, namely Dewan Kompleks Rakan Sukan Tanah Merah, SK Ayer Puteh, and SK Tunku Intan Shafinaz, which was newly opened at 4 pm today.

In Kota Setar, a total of 331 people from 92 families are placed in two PPS, namely SK Taman Aman and SK Haji Idris, which was also newly opened at 2.30 pm today.

"In the Kulim district, the Dewan Serbaguna Pokok Sena PPS houses a total of 116 people from 33 families, and 56 people from 36 families are taking shelter at SK Merbau Pulas," according to the statement.

The Public Infobanjir website reported that one river in Kedah has exceeded the danger level, which is Sungai Pendang in Pendang (3.49 metres), while Sungai Padang Terap in Kubang Pasu has exceeded the warning level (3.67m).
