JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 30 (Bernama) -- Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight world champion Khabib Nurmagomedov will make a special visit to Johor next month.
Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the mixed martial arts (MMA) legend will attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Khabib Gym Johor, an international training centre dedicated to sports development.
“We extend our deepest appreciation and respect to the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, for his vision and leadership in elevating the state’s sporting stature to the global stage.
“This initiative also reflects high-impact global cooperation and Johor’s determination to emerge as a leading hub for sports and talent development in the region,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Onn Hafiz said the MMA legend’s presence in Johor is a great honour, not only for the sporting world but also for the people of Johor, who uphold the values of excellence, discipline and relentless fighting spirit.
“Let us all look forward to this historic moment. May it inspire the rise of more champions from Johor, who will bring pride to the state and the nation on the world stage, Insya-Allah,” he said.
In October last year, Tunku Mahkota Ismail received Khabib in an audience, during which they discussed youth development programmes and the proposal to open Khabib’s training gym in Johor.
