Kampung Beringin Boasts Potential As Melaka’s New Agrotourism Destination

02/11/2025 05:15 PM

ALOR GAJAH, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Kampung Beringin in Durian Tunggal has the potential to emerge as a new agrotourism destination, offering economic benefits to the local community.

Durian Tunggal assemblyman Datuk Zahari Abd Kalil said the village boasts a distinctive appeal, with scenic padi fields and Sungai Melaka that could be developed into a tourist spot.

“With its beautiful natural scenery, the charm of a traditional village, and Durian Tunggal’s strategic location near the Ayer Keroh Toll, I am confident this area can attract both domestic and international tourists, thereby providing economic benefits to local residents.

“Once this project is implemented, we also plan to provide a dedicated area for local traders, enabling them to take part in tourism and earn additional income,” he said.

He said this to reporters at Hari Aduan Rakyat, held in conjunction with the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) Programme for the Durian Tunggal state constituency, which was also attended by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

Zahari said the proposal to develop Kampung Beringin as an agrotourism destination, with an allocation of RM500,000, had been submitted to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) through the state government.

He added that the allocation would go towards upgrading basic amenities and providing additional facilities to ensure visitor comfort.

Meanwhile, he said the Hari Aduan Rakyat programme held today received an encouraging response, with nearly 100 complaints lodged by local residents.

“Held in conjunction with the WRUR, the programme aims to bring leaders closer to the community, allowing residents to channel complaints, raise issues, and offer suggestions directly to elected representatives and relevant departments.

“The complaints received covered a range of issues, such as land, roads, flooding, drains, street lighting, and other public amenities.

“Some complaints, such as subsidence in Taman Angkasanuri, have already been addressed. A townhall session was also conducted with the chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK),  members of the state executive council, and relevant agencies,” he said.

The programme also saw one-off assistance presented to 60 students in the Durian Tunggal constituency who are pursuing studies at higher education institutions.
