Terengganu Receives RM3.1 Million To Upgrade, Repair Jetties

11/11/2025 02:46 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 11 (Bernama) – The Terengganu state government has received RM3.1 million from the federal government, through the Ministry of Finance (MOF), to upgrade and repair jetties near Coral Bay Resort, Pasir Panjang Jetty, and Teluk Keke Jetty.

State Tourism, Culture, Environment, and Climate Change Committee chairman, Datuk Razali Idris, said the funding would be used by the Besut District Council to improve tourism facilities, ensuring they are more comfortable and safe for visitors to Pulau Perhentian.

“The state government is committed to improving the tourism infrastructure on Pulau Perhentian, focusing on jetty safety, public amenities, and waste management to maintain Kuala Besut as a main entry point for international tourism,” he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Wisma Darul Iman today.

Razali said this in response to a question from Azbi Salleh (PAS-Kuala Besut) about efforts to upgrade tourism infrastructure on Pulau Perhentian, including jetty safety, public facilities, and waste management.

In addition, Razali said the Besut District Council had appointed a contractor for cleaning services, which will include waste collection and general maintenance on Pulau Perhentian.

He added that various programmes and initiatives have been implemented by the Terengganu Fisheries Department to support environmental management and conservation on the island.

In response to a supplementary question on the number of visitors to Pulau Perhentian, Razali said about 300,000 tourists are expected to have visited by mid-2025.

“Pulau Perhentian’s popularity among scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts shows the state government’s commitment to maintaining the island’s infrastructure in excellent condition,” he added.
