18/11/2025 12:03 AM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) won five awards in four categories at the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) Media Excellence Awards (AkeMedia) 2025 ceremony here tonight.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming presented the prizes to award winners.

Two Bernama staff won first place, Johor Bernama bureau chief Hasnah Jusid for Best Social Media Content 2025 with the content entitled “Dari Flat Usang ke Harapan Baru Bandar”, and Terengganu Bernama photographer Mohd Khairul Fikiri Osman for Best Photojournalism 2025, each receiving RM3,000 in cash, a trophy and certificate.

Also, Kelantan Bernama journalist Mohd Noor Iqram Rosli won third place in the Best Social Media Content 2025 category with his article entitled “Portal Teduh: Akses Informasi Perumahan” and Economic News Service journalist Abdul Hamid A Rahman won third place in the Best Published Article 2025 category with a series of three articles on the maintenance fee issue in strata developments in Malaysia.

Finally, the Bernama Radio broadcasting journalist team of Siti Hashmarr Mohd Hashim, Nurul Shuhadah Armawan and Edlynna Hanie Abu Hamid also won third place for Best Radio Broadcast 2025 with their broadcast entitled “Lambakan Rumah Tidak Terjual: Mampu Milik atau Hanya Mimpi?

All third placed winners took home RM1,000 in cash, a trophy and certificate.

Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, who was present at the award ceremony tonight, expressed hope that Bernama’s achievements would be repeated next year.

“Alhamdulillah tonight five winners from Bernama, including two champions that I never expected as there were over 240 entries, to be shortlisted as finalists was also good, what more to win.

“So, on behalf of Bernama, especially Bernama’s management, I’m very proud to see our young journalists win awards,” she said when met.

Nga had earlier said in his opening address that communications were no longer a process of delivering messages but a strategic partnership in delivering government policies that demanded transparency and to raise public awareness about social, economic and development issues.

The duty has become more challenging with the development of social media platforms and the expanding use of artificial intelligence (AI), he added.

“This modern communications technology is like a double-edged sword. On one hand, social media can enable government messages to spread to more people in a short time.

“On the other hand, it opens up room for misinterpretation, manipulation of information and the spread of slander, which can go viral in seconds,” Nga said.

He noted that close cooperation between the media and the government would grow more vital, especially in building a communications ecosystem that is more mature and responsible.
