19/11/2025 11:43 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Turkey have great potential to strengthen strategic cooperation through technology transfer, joint development and involvement of local industries to strengthen the country's defence capabilities.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin expressed his confidence after receiving a visit from leading Turkish defence technology company led by ASELSAN CEO and President Ahmet Akyol and Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia Emir Salim Yüksel.

"In this meeting, I stressed the need for Malaysia to move beyond the traditional procurement model and improve its procurement strategy towards long-term cooperation that builds national supply chains, strengthens local industry collaboration and opens up wider market opportunities," he said in a Facebook post tonight.

The four-point meeting also focused on discussions on appropriate cooperation in the military and defence fields that both countries require.
