KUCHING, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- The family institution is crucial for shaping an ethical and responsible society, said Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
She said the government, through the ministry, is committed to strengthening family institutions by introducing policies, support programmes, and parenting education to address current challenges
“Today’s children face numerous new challenges, from the influence of social media to emotional pressures that are not always visible. Nevertheless, the family remains the primary source of protection," she said at the closing ceremony of Kem Kasih Keluarga 2.0, held in conjunction with National Family Month here today.
Nancy highlighted the need for a holistic approach to strengthening family institutions, which includes improving parenting skills, fostering effective communication, promoting positive discipline, and offering community support.
In line with the KASIH Keluarga Negara agenda outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), she added that the role of men in the country’s socio-economic development will continue to be strengthened, particularly through the Lelaki Budiman Programme, which has been allocated RM4 million.
At the official launch of National Family Month on Nov 9, Nancy introduced the Kebapaan (Fatherhood) module which emphasises the important role of fathers as protectors, guides, and leaders of the family.
The module is designed to help fathers balance work and family life, manage stress effectively, and communicate with care.
“While no father is perfect, every father can be a source of strength and inspiration for their family,” she added.
Following the event, Nancy said the government is offering a 100 per cent tax deduction for employers who organise family-oriented activities, aimed at fostering a harmonious and productive work environment.
“Eligible activities include family days, company sports events, annual dinners, and team-building programmes that promote family well-being.
“Employers can claim this tax deduction if they meet certain conditions, including organising the activities themselves and ensuring they benefit all employees or specific groups, with verified expenses,” she added.
