XMUM Wins Two Prizes At Malaysia’s CSR & SDGs Idea Pitching Competition

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- The School of Communication of Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM) won two prizes at Malaysia’s first-ever Idea Pitching Competition dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event held on Dec 3 2025, at the Tan Hua Choon Auditorium, was organised by the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia Student Association-XMUM (IPRMSA-XMUM) in collaboration with the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM).

The inaugural competition brought together participants from nine Malaysian universities, featuring 14 competing groups and attracting more than 500 Public Relations and Communication students nationwide.

In a statement, IPRM said in the Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability Project Idea (Category A), XMUM claimed the top two prizes. First prize went to Group 6 from XMUM for their project “The Clothes Reborn Programme: Building a Micro-circular System”, followed by Group 8 from XMUM with “My Kampung, My Journey”. The University of Wollongong Malaysia (UoW) secured third place with their project “Kira-Kira”

“For Best CSR & Sustainability Project Presentation (Category B), Group 5 from UoW won first prize with “Zero Hunger: Meals of Hope”. INTI International University, Nilai, took second place with “My Green My Future”, while SEGI University placed third with “SoSure Media 2025,” read the statement.

Dean of the School of Communication, Prof Dr Wang Changsong, in his welcoming speech, said the competition aimed to empower students to transform CSR and SDG-aligned concepts into practical, impactful projects addressing pressing social and sustainability challenges

The competition was officiated by IPRM president Jaffri Amin Osman and attended by IPRM council members and IPRMSA advisors from universities across Malaysia.

Participating universities included the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), INTI International University Nilai, SEGI University, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Kampar, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), University of Wollongong Malaysia (UoW) and Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM).

IPRM also announced the addition of three new IPRMSA members: Sunway University, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM).

The event featured a workshop led by Jaffri, offering professional insights into CSR, ESG and SDG practices, alongside industry case studies to enhance students’ understanding of corporate responsibility frameworks.

A charity booth by Lovely Disabled Home provided attendees with exposure to philanthropic initiatives and opportunities to contribute directly to community welfare.

The institute emphasised that such programmes foster innovation, ethics and impactful storytelling while nurturing emerging communicators and strengthening the future of the PR profession in Malaysia.
