Queen Briefed On Arts And Culture Mentoring Programme For B40 Students

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, was today briefed on the Arts and Culture Mentoring Programme for B40 students at selected schools around Kuala Lumpur.

The briefing at Istana Bukit Serene, Johor Bahru, was delivered by Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini, together with National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) director-general Mohd Amran Mohd Haris.

A post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s official Facebook page stated that one of the key points presented was a detailed explanation of the programme’s concept, inspired by the noble intentions of Her Majesty.

The initiative seeks to give B40 students insight into career opportunities in the arts by connecting them with prominent activists and artists.

“It also serves as a platform to discover future talents and offer constructive content to steer them away from social ills,” the post said.

In the same post, Azuan Effendy said that every effort was being made to ensure the programme’s success and he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all parties for their unwavering support.

He added that Her Majesty’s direct involvement in overseeing every plan had inspired them to give their very best.

In July last year, Raja Zarith Sofiah called for secondary school students, especially those from B40 households, to be exposed to the arts industry as a means of steering them away from social ills.

Her Majesty said that such exposure was crucial in opening opportunities for B40 students who might not excel academically but showed potential in the arts.
