Water Rationing Continues In Kluang, Pontian As Machap Dam Levels Drop

15/02/2026 12:01 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- Scheduled water supply in the Kluang and Pontian districts will continue with a new schedule starting from tomorrow until Feb 28.

Johor water operator Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd (Ranhill SAJ) said this was due to a downward trend in the water level at the Machap Dam, which is currently under close monitoring.

It added that throughout the new scheduling period, water distribution will be carried out on a 24-hour supply basis, followed by no water supply for the next 48 hours.

"The distribution of supply is according to the designated zones and predetermined schedules.

"The schedule for both time periods is to ensure that the management of raw water resources can be implemented in a controlled manner, in addition to stabilising water treatment plant operations under limited capacity conditions,” it said in a statement uploaded to Facebook today.

Elaborating, Ranhill SAJ said the Simpang Renggam Water Treatment Plant (LRA) remains operational and will continue supplying treated water to consumers, albeit at a more controlled capacity to ensure continuity of supply.

It added that the scheduled water supply is being implemented as a temporary measure to ensure that water distribution is carried out fairly and adequately to all affected areas throughout the period.

As such, the public is advised to use water prudently, avoid wastage and store sufficient water for basic needs.

"Alternative water supply via water tankers, static tanks and mineral water will continue to be provided as needed at strategic locations.

"The situation will be monitored, and updates will be provided from time to time,” it added.

The scheduled water supply was first implemented on Feb 7, with a 36-hour water supply schedule, followed by the next 36 hours without water supply.
