KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) is undergoing a restructuring and governance enhancement process that is expected to be fully completed by late March, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
He said the measures taken are aimed at upgrading the agency’s operations to prevent any issues from arising in the future, and are not a “clean-up” exercise as alleged by certain parties.
Commenting on the suspension of officers at the agency, Ramanan urged all parties to allow the investigation process to be completed first.
"We are upgrading, making sure we are putting all the correct tools in place so that no problems will arise after this," he told a press conference after launching the First Immersive MYFutureJobs Career Exploration Centre (MYCEC) in Malaysia here today.
Last Saturday, HRD Corp suspended three more members of its management as part of efforts to strengthen institutional discipline and preserve industry confidence.
HRD Corp chief executive officer Datuk Shamir Aziz said in a statement that the move reflects the organisation’s commitment to enhancing governance standards and ensuring that national workforce development resources are managed transparently, efficiently and accountably.
Ramanan said the changes implemented are also intended to address various weaknesses that had been raised previously, as reported in the Auditor-General’s findings, which highlighted issues involving the agency.
Touching on key appointments within HRD Corp, Ramanan said priority is always given to professionals with credibility, adding that no political appointments have been made at this time.
“So far, those appointed include a former CEO of a GLC commission and a former deputy secretary-general of the Treasury. So that is the sort of people that we are going to put into place,” he said.
