Number Of Flood Victims In Sabah Drops To 6,595 Tonight

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Sabah dropped to 6,595 people from 2,173 families tonight, compared to 6,910 people from 2,282 families this afternoon.

The Secretariat of the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) informed in a statement that the number of victims in two districts remained unchanged, namely Beaufort with 1,462 people from 467 families and Membakut with 202 people (74 families).

Meanwhile, the Tenom district showed a drop in the number of victims to 4,931 people from 1,632 families, compared to 5,246 people from 1,741 families this afternoon.

Two of the three temporary evacuation centers (PPS) in Membakut, namely Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) ST Patrick and SMK Membakut, were closed at 3:00 pm today.

A total of 93 villages in the Beaufort district were inundated by floodwaters, Tenom (46 villages), and Membakut (16 villages).

All victims are currently placed at 30 temporary evacuation centers, which have been open since last Wednesday, resulting in residents from a total of 155 villages across the three districts, unable to carry out their daily activities.
