Iftar Ramadan 2026 Positioned As Tourism Product For VM2026 – MOTAC Sec-Gen

28/02/2026 10:55 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- The Iftar Ramadan 2026 programme organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is being positioned as a platform to invigorate the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign by highlighting the breaking of fast experience as a national tourism product.

MOTAC Secretary-General Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot said this year’s edition has been designed to be more comprehensive and on a larger scale to strengthen the country’s cultural and spiritual tourism offerings for VM2026.

“This year’s Iftar Ramadan is held in conjunction with VM2026. Although the event is organised annually, this time we are presenting it with more vibrant content to celebrate VM2026.

“The objective is to introduce the tourism products available in our country, and the iftar programme itself is one of the tourism products, where visitors can enjoy and experience breaking fast in Malaysia,” he told reporters at the programme held at Dataran Merdeka here today.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Chiew Choon Man. Also present were Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud and National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) director-general Mohd Amran Mohd Haris.

The programme is organised by MOTAC through JKKN in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and is now in its 14th year.

Shaharuddin said the response has been highly encouraging, with many visitors including foreign tourists taking the opportunity to experience the breaking of fast atmosphere in the capital.

“We can see many foreign tourists attending. In addition to travelling in Kuala Lumpur, they have the opportunity to personally experience breaking fast at a location that is highly significant to the nation,” he said.

He said the programme is not merely a mass breaking of fast event, but also a manifestation of harmony among Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society and a medium to strengthen unity through spiritual and cultural activities.

The programme, held today, tomorrow as well as March 14 and 15, also features various activities including the distribution of bubur lambuk (a type of porridge), spiritual performances, congregational prayers, Quran recitation (tadarus), Bicara Ramadan sessions, Malam Tujuh Likur, as well as zakat fitrah counters and moreh.
