KANGAR, March 14 (Bernama) -- The Reserve component has now become a strategic asset for the Malaysian Army (TDM) in countering increasingly complex hybrid threats, in line with the evolving dynamics of global security.
Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail said the transformation of the component goes beyond its conventional support role as it now also involves the integration of civilian professional expertise, including in the fields of cyber, technology, logistics and medicine.
According to him, rapid mobility at the grassroots level combined with such expertise can act as a critical force multiplier in safeguarding national sovereignty in an increasingly challenging era of modern warfare.
“The development of the Malaysian Army’s capabilities is now also based on the principles of versatility and flexibility in facing an ever-changing future operational environment.
“This strategy has been specifically engineered to address hybrid warfare, grey zone threats and the surge of disruptive technologies based on artificial intelligence (AI),” he said after attending the 2026 Perlis Volunteer Force Support Committee’s breaking-of-fast event here yesterday.
As the Commander of the 504th Regiment of the Territorial Army, he said that such capabilities are not only crucial in modern conflicts but can also enhance the Malaysian Army’s agility in managing humanitarian crises and natural disasters, which are occurring more frequently.
The breaking-of-fast event was held to strengthen ties among committee members, officers and personnel of the Territorial Army, as well as heads of departments, while also recognising continued support for the role of the Volunteer Force in strengthening national defence and security.
