19/03/2026 02:21 PM

LABUAN, March 19 (Bernama) -- With proactive measures in place, in line with the Vehicle Ferry Operations Task Force formation, the Labuan Ro-Ro Ferry Terminal has seen smoother traffic and reduced congestion ahead of the festive season.

Labuan Corporation (LC) in a statement to Bernama today said the measures were introduced as part of coordinated efforts under the task force to ensure smoother vehicle movement and enhance operational efficiency at the terminal.

Key measures introduced included the temporary closure of the drive-through immigration kiosk and the deployment of additional customs inspection teams, which have expedited the processing of vehicles boarding the ferries.

These initiatives have successfully reduced the average ferry departure delay to under 10 minutes, compared with the previous 30 to 60 minutes, ensuring smoother movement at the terminal.

The Marine Department and ferry operators have also enforced stricter adherence to scheduled departure times, with no compromise given to late-arriving vehicles.

Vehicles on the waiting list are now processed immediately after the cut-off time, further improving operational efficiency.

In addition, an extra parking area has been designated for waiting-list vehicles between the Public Bank Berhad and Skylux Duty Free buildings to ease congestion and improve traffic management around the terminal.

To accommodate the expected rise in passenger and vehicle traffic during the festive period, ferry operators have been instructed to increase the number of trips

The Marine Department has approved 26 additional ferry trips on the Labuan-Menumbok-Labuan route from March 17 to 30, in conjunction with the Hari Raya celebrations and school breaks.

Earlier, Labuan Corporation chief executive officer Rithuan Ismail conducted an on-site inspection of the terminal as part of ongoing monitoring under the task force.

He said authorities would continue to enhance monitoring and implement further improvements to ensure smooth traffic flow and user comfort, particularly during the festive period
