Malaysia's Haj Operations Off To Smooth Start - Zulkifli

17/04/2026 02:53 PM

KUALA KANGSAR, April 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s haj operations for the 1447H/2026 season are progressing smoothly, with advance teams arriving in the Holy Land to coordinate preparations for incoming pilgrims.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the readiness of Tabung Haji (TH) personnel on the ground is at its highest level to ensure a seamless process when the first flight carrying the pilgrims arrives.

He said he personally would join the haj officials in Sepang to bid farewell to the pilgrims on the first flight, scheduled to depart at around 4 am tomorrow.

“Two early flights carrying TH personnel and Ministry of Health staff have safely arrived in the Holy Land as part of preparations to welcome these duyufurrahman (guests of Allah) in an orderly and safe manner.

“Our team is fully prepared, and all arrangements have been completed to ensure operations proceed as planned,” he told reporters after officiating at the 2026 Madrasah Idrisiah Ihtifal programme here today.

On a related note, Zulkifli said the government is closely monitoring current geopolitical developments, including the global energy crisis and tensions involving Iran and the United States, particularly in terms of public perception and concerns among pilgrims and their families.

He said the matter has been discussed at multiple levels, including the Cabinet, with strategic coordination involving Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

“We are emphasising clear and accurate communication to ensure information shared with pilgrims and the public does not cause unnecessary concern.

“TH has also activated a comprehensive communications plan, including a dedicated team to monitor developments and provide continuous updates,” he said.

Zulkifli added that the use of digital apps and the role of haj guides on the ground have been strengthened to ensure pilgrims receive reliable information at all times.

He also urged the public not to be influenced by unverified information that could trigger anxiety, but instead to rely on official channels.

“Most prospective pilgrims remain confident about performing the haj this year. None have withdrawn despite global challenges, reflecting trust in the management and safety measures in place,” he said.
