Postal Forum Holds Dialogue To Boost Postal Industry Safety, Security Awareness

21/04/2026 07:54 PM

PUTRAJAYA, April 21 (Bernama) -- Postal Forum, a self-regulatory body designated by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), today organised the Postal Industry Safety and Security Dialogue as its maiden initiative to enhance awareness of legislation, improve industry standards and strengthen operational accountability among postal service providers.

Postal Forum head Nurhafizah Hanifah said the dialogue brought together 30 participants from key regulatory bodies, including ministries and government agencies, alongside licensees, on an integrated platform to address challenges related to safety, security and legal requirements in the industry.

“This initiative reflects a proactive approach to strengthening industry preparedness, in line with the rapid growth of e-commerce, which saw parcel volumes exceed 1.5 billion last year, thereby increasing the need for operational integrity, efficient risk management and consumer protection.

“The increase has also seen new risks emerge, including the misuse of courier services for drug trafficking and wildlife smuggling, the delivery of dangerous goods and safety issues involving courier workers. This situation demands a more integrated approach, highlighting the relevance and importance of this initiative,” she said in a statement today.

Nurhafizah said discussions during the dialogue emphasised efforts to strengthen compliance with existing laws and improve operational safety practices.

She said the session also provided a platform for constructive discussions between regulatory bodies and industry players, thereby strengthening mutual commitment towards the delivery of safer and more secure services.

“The postal and courier industry is one of the main catalysts for the country’s economic growth. The role of the Postal Forum is to bridge the gap between regulations and implementation by educating industry players so that they not only understand their responsibilities but are also able to implement them voluntarily in the interest of consumers and the country.

“The participation of all participants in this session reflects the strong commitment of industry players to improving standards and ensuring the delivery of safe, secure and reliable services to consumers,” she said.

Nurhafizah also stressed that regulatory requirements should not be seen as a burden but as the basic framework of the industry, while calling on postal service providers to participate in the Malaysian Courier Security Passport (MyCSP) training programme and to continue strengthening initiatives, collaboration and capacity-building towards a safe and reliable postal and courier ecosystem.

The dialogue saw active participation from key agencies, including the MCMC, the Ministry of Health, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, the Land Public Transport Agency, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health and the Social Security Organisation.

Postal Forum was appointed as a self-regulatory body by MCMC under the Postal Services Act 2012, and has been actively carrying out its functions comprehensively since 2022.
