Pasir Gudang Highway Upgrade Project Reaches 83 Per Cent Progress - Onn Hafiz

14/05/2026 07:21 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, May 14 (Bernama) -- The project to upgrade the Pasir Gudang Highway (FT17) from four to six lanes has reached 83 per cent progress, with a 6.4-kilometre (km) section already open to motorists.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the upgrade project, covering a 10km stretch from the Bandar Seri Alam/Taman Rinting intersection to Pasir Gudang, is expected to ease frequent traffic congestion in the area.

He said the remaining 3.6km section of the main route is scheduled to be fully opened by this August.

“Final works, including finishing touches and coordinating other infrastructure, will continue until full completion in November 2026,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Onn Hafiz also said that the Taman Kota Puteri and Taman Teluk Tropikana intersections on the Permas-Pasir Gudang Highway now have a smart traffic light system as part of the improvements.

He said the smart traffic light system aims to improve traffic flow management, especially during peak hours.

Onn Hafiz said the state government remains focused on improving road infrastructure and the transport system to ensure the comfort and safety of road users in the state.

The Ministry of Works previously reported that the Phase 2B upgrade involving the Bandar Seri Alam/Taman Rinting stretch to the Pasir Gudang Interchange was expected to be completed in July this year.

Meanwhile, Phase F3, which covers the Perling Interchange to the Kangkar Tebrau Interchange, is expected to begin this year and reach completion by 2028.
