PUTRAJAYA, May 19 (Bernama) -- The main challenge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Malaysia today is no longer just about creating job opportunities, but ensuring that the jobs created are of high quality, productive, and offer better income to workers.
Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said that the issue of TVET is critical because it can reduce the mismatch between skills and industry needs, while also addressing employability issues among graduates.
He said that TVET is also important for increasing workforce productivity and driving the transformation of the nation’s industry towards a high-technology and digital economy.
“I emphasised this while chairing the High-Level Committee (HLC) meeting of the National TVET Council (MTVET) No. 2/2026 today, to ensure that the human capital development agenda continues to be strengthened to meet future needs,” he said in a Facebook post today.
According to him, TVET is not merely a primary career option, but rather a catalyst for accelerating the country’s economic growth.
