NILAI, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department (JPJ) has seized 291 goods vehicles in enforcement operations from last year until April this year.
State JPJ director Jasyindar Singh Shindu said of the total, 245 were seized under the Road Transport Act (APJ), while 46 were seized under the Land Public Transport Act (APAD).
“A total of 562 cases were taken action under the APAD Act 2010, while another 153 cases were recorded from January to April, involving offences such as overloading, violations of operator licence conditions, and obstructing enforcement officers,” he told reporters during an overloading operation at Jalan Kuari Labu-Nilai here today.
Jasyindar said for the cases charged in court, seven resulted in fines amounting to RM97,000.
These involved five vehicles that were forfeited, one case involving a fine and conditional temporary release, and one case involving a fine with the vehicle released, while 13 others were granted temporary release and remain under trial during the period.
Overall, he said JPJ inspected 52,759 goods vehicles last year, with action taken against 13,813, while from this year until April, 14,133 goods vehicles were inspected, with 2,475 of them subjected to enforcement action in operations conducted across the state.
Meanwhile, he said the threat posed by ‘tontos’ or informants remains a challenge to enforcement efforts in the state.
“Certain parties pay ‘tontos’ to monitor JPJ operations. They provide early warnings to certain parties to evade enforcement action,” he said.
He said among the reasons given by lorry drivers for carrying excess loads is the pursuit of higher commissions, as the amount of load determines their wages and commissions from companies.
Jasyindar said most overloaded vehicles involve materials such as sand and stones, with two hotspot locations identified in Nilai.
