Dedication Of Sanitation Workers Key To Making Melaka Top Tourist Choice

18/06/2026 05:42 PM

MELAKA, June 18 (Bernama) -- The dedication and role of sanitation workers in keeping Melaka clean, beautiful and vibrant are key factors making the state a preferred destination for domestic and international tourists.

State Senior Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management, Datuk Rais Yasin, said this commitment is shown by achievements such as the 'ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard Award' received by the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) during the ASEAN Tourism Awards in January.

"The beauty and cleanliness of Melaka City, which is our pride today, would not be possible without the commitment, discipline and dedication shown by our sanitation workers.

"In our efforts to make Melaka a clean, green and sustainable city, every effort by these workers is a major contribution to the state's development and the people's well-being," he told reporters today.

He said this after officiating the ‘Santuni Petugas Pembersihan’ programme in conjunction with the MBMB-level Sanitation Workers Day 2026 celebration here, which was also attended by MBMB Mayor Datuk Shadan Othman.

Elaborating, Rais said the programme shows MBMB's appreciation as a local authority for the hard work and contributions that keep Melaka beautiful and clean, in line with the 'Melaka Sayang Rakyat' vision.

He said the celebration, involving over 100 sanitation workers under MBMB was also aimed to motivate, appreciate and recognise them, including those in residential and village areas.

"The Sanitation Workers Day celebration will also be carried out by three other local authorities, namely the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council, Jasin Municipal Council and Alor Gajah Municipal Council," he said.

Meanwhile, Rais urged all parties, including the public, to play their part in maintaining environmental cleanliness, emphasising that it is not the sole responsibility of sanitation workers but a shared duty.

"With the cooperation of all parties, we will certainly be able to create a cleaner, healthier and higher-quality city," he added.
