KPKT Allocates RM8.4 Mln For Lift Replacements In Private Strata Housing In N. Sembilan

23/06/2026 02:55 PM

NILAI, June 23 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), through the National Housing Department, has allocated RM 8.4 million to replace 20 lifts in four private strata housing locations in the Nilai and Seremban areas.

Negeri Sembilan Local Government Development, Housing, and Transport Committee chairman J. Arul Kumar said that the Strata Affordable Housing Maintenance Programme (PPPMB) for Private Housing Lifts 2025 is expected to be fully completed by October.

He said the allocation includes the Desa Palma Apartments, Bandar Baru Nilai, involving RM2.3 million to replace five new lifts in the five eight-storey building blocks.

"Now, each block is getting a new lift, and with this replacement, we hope the residents can enjoy more comfortable and safer facilities," he said to reporters after conducting a working visit at the Desa Palma Apartments here today.

Arul said that besides Desa Palma, the same project is also being implemented at Desa Cempaka Apartments, Desa Jati Phase 2 Apartments in Bandar Baru Nilai, and Taman Seremban Putra Apartments, Seremban.

He said the assistance complements various maintenance initiatives that have been provided by the KPKT previously via the Malaysian Housing Maintenance Fund (TPPM), including roof repairs, electrical wiring, plumbing systems and sanitary facilities.

Meanwhile, residents' representative, S. Tamilchellvan, 64, when met, said he felt relieved with the replacement of the lifts in the 24-year-old apartment, which had previously faced various problems, including the almost monthly incidents of residents getting trapped in the lift.

"Last year, a pregnant woman and a small child were trapped in the lift for almost 30 minutes. We called the fire department and they had to break the lift door. The cost of repairing the lift door was very expensive," said the lecturer at a private college here.

Meanwhile, resident Dr. B. Malathy, 48, expressed her gratitude for the new lifts at the Desa Palma apartments.

She said the majority of the residents in the apartment comprised college students, lecturers, teachers, and those who prioritise comfort and residential safety.
