CPO Futures End Mostly Higher On Supply Concerns

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- The crude palm oil (CPO) futures contract on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed mostly higher today, supported by concerns over tight supply, said an analyst.

The analyst noted that Malaysian palm oil reserves remain low, while the industry continues to grapple with tighter supplies of the ubiquitous oil.

"The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) stated that plantations affected by floods earlier this year, caused by heavy rains, are unlikely to see production recovery for at least another month," he said.

Meanwhile, cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services (ITS) reported that Malaysian palm oil product exports for February 1-25 fell 2.7 per cent to 909,165 tonnes compared to 934,598 tonnes shipped during the same period in January 2025.

On the contrary, independent inspection company AmSpec Agri Malaysia said that palm oil products exports for February 1-25 rose 1.2 per cent to 879,652 tonnes from 868,960 tonnes shipped during the same period last month.

At the close, the March 2025 contract fell RM8 to RM4,723 per tonne and April 2025 decreased RM4 to RM4,655 per tonne.

May 2025 went up RM6 to RM4,565 per tonne, June 2025 added RM21 to RM4,467 per tonne, July 2025 rose RM35 to RM4,375 per tonne, and August 2025 gained RM44 to RM4,313 per tonne.

Trading volume increased to 69,259 lots from 46,796 lots on Monday, while open interest dipped slightly to 244,430 contracts versus 244,880 contracts yesterday.

The physical CPO price for March South was RM50 higher at RM4,850 per tonne.
