KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 23 (Bernama) -- The Serantau Muslim Welfare Organisation (Serantau Muslim) has provided humanitarian aid to 26,170 Syrians affected during the post-conflict recovery phase in the Middle Eastern country.
The aid, according to the organisation, comprised 5,970 units of essential items, such as food packages and winter supplies.
"The aid is directed towards two main groups: Syrians who are rebuilding their lives after the liberation from the Al-Assad regime and refugee families in camps in neighbouring countries like Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan.
"This assistance is critical given the current life-threatening extreme winter temperatures, coupled with the difficulties in getting access to food and necessities," it said in a statement today.
The humanitarian aid programme reflects the nation's commitment to realising the MADANI Malaysia aspirations through international aid, thus strengthening Malaysia's position as an Islamic country that cares about the welfare of the global community.
Serantau Muslim will remain committed to supporting the Syrian people in rebuilding their lives and creating a better future, in line with the organisation's goal of helping those in need, it added.
