Melaka To Introduce Smart AI Tourism

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government is set to introduce a new smart tourism initiative, known as “Smart AI Tourism Melaka”, by September this year as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s digital tourism ecosystem.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the initiative, which leverages artificial intelligence (AI) technology, is designed to enhance the visitor experience by making it easier for tourists to navigate and discover attractions across the state.

“This initiative will serve as both a guide and interpreter in multiple languages and guide, helping to highlight Melaka’s rich history and tourist hotspots, ultimately attracting more visitors,” he said at the Melaka Telecommunication Appreciation and Synergy Night here last night.

The event also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and strategic collaboration between Melaka ICT Holdings Sdn. Bhd. (MICTH) and three major telecommunications companies -- Rohas Euco Industries Berhad, Maxis Broadband Sdn. Bhd. and U Mobile Sdn. Bhd.

Expanding on the initiative, Ab Rauf explained that, unlike static information displays, such as signboards, Smart AI Tourism Melaka will offer interactive two-way communication through features like QR codes that translate content into multiple languages.

The system will also enable users to explore enriched content via the state’s official tourism website, providing a more immersive and accessible experience for all, he added.

In a related development, Ab Rauf said that Melaka has achieved 99.97 per cent 4G network coverage and 89.7 per cent 5G coverage in populated areas (CoPA), with average mobile broadband speeds reaching 121 Mbps, exceeding the national target of 100 Mbps.

“The state government is targeting 100 per cent 4G and 5G coverage in all populated areas by 2027,” he said
