21/07/2025 02:59 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has left the investigation into the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) helicopter crash in Sungai Pulai, Gelang Patah, on July 10 to the relevant authorities.

Minister Chang Lih Kang said that although the incident occurred during the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise (MITSATOM) 2025, the ministry is not involved in the probe.

“It happened during a MOSTI programme rehearsal, but we are not part of the investigation. It’s not under our purview,” he told reporters at the launch of the Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI) in conjunction with MyBlockchain.

On July 10, MOSTI had said it would fully cooperate with authorities investigating the crash, which occurred around 10.15 am near the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) jetty during MITSATOM 2025, a joint nuclear security exercise involving Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.

This year’s MITSATOM was held under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, with Atom Malaysia serving as chair of the ASEAN Network of Regulatory Bodies on Atomic Energy under the ASEAN Political-Security Community Strategic Plan.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail earlier stated that two victims were critically injured and are receiving treatment at Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor.
