KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The upgrading works on Phases 2 and 3 of the Kelana Jaya Line signalling system, initially scheduled to begin on Aug 9, have been postponed to Sept 6.
Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) said in a statement today that the rescheduling was to allow additional testing of the new Phase 1 signalling system to ensure it is fully functional and efficient.
The additional tests are crucial to assess the system’s performance under actual operating conditions and to minimise the risk of future service disruptions.
“For Phase 1, the upgrading works were carried out during night maintenance hours as the affected areas were mainly around the depot and did not involve the main train operating route.
“This upgrading project is part of a long‑term solution following the signalling system disruption incident in November 2022,” the statement said.
Prasarana said Phase 2 works will take place on Sept 6, 7, 14, 15, 21, 27 and 28, and Oct 11 and 12, covering stations from KLCC to Gombak.
Phase 3 is scheduled for Nov 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 29 and 30, involving the Lembah Subang to Ampang Park stretch.
This means the affected stations will only open to passengers from 9 am, later than the usual 6 am start, while stations not involved in the system testing will operate as usual.
However, Prasarana said free shuttle buses and vans will be provided to connect the affected stations to ensure smooth passenger movement.
“Passengers will be assisted by station staff, auxiliary police and Prasarana Troopers (trained volunteers) who will be stationed at the affected and interchange stations. Information boards and leaflets will also be available at stations and bus stops to guide commuters.
“Prasarana apologises for any inconvenience caused by the change in the upgrade schedule. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of passengers throughout this period,” the statement added.
The new SelTrac Generation 8 signalling system provides real‑time data analysis, enhanced cybersecurity and improved communication stability, and is expected to extend the lifespan of the existing signalling system by up to 20 years.
