IPOH, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), Sarawak Oil Limited, and Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (Yayasan UTP) have formalised a strategic partnership through a scholarship agreement aimed at fostering future talent for Malaysia's energy sector.
In a statement today, Yayasan UTP said the collaboration represents a significant public-private partnership, designed to offer full scholarships to high-potential students pursuing engineering and technology education at UTP.
The partnership will see PTTEP fund the education of selected scholars, covering tuition fees, living allowances, and accommodation for the duration of their studies at UTP.
"The initiative aims to develop well-rounded professionals who are equipped to contribute to the nation’s energy development while excelling in an increasingly competitive global economy," the statement read.
The collaboration also emphasises the shared goal of expanding access to high-quality education, especially for students who meet the programme's criteria. By easing financial burdens, the programme seeks to unlock the academic potential of young talents, enabling them to focus on achieving exceptional academic and extracurricular results.
In the statement, Yayasan UTP secretary-general, Ratna Mohd Tawil, said the partnership with PTTEP highlights their collective effort to transform lives through education.
She acknowledged that many talented students face considerable challenges in pursuing higher education, and this collaboration aims to alleviate those barriers.
“Our role is to provide an opportunity that will make a profound impact on their lives, equipping them to become the future leaders of our industry,” Ratna said.
She added that the programme’s ‘Nurture & Development’ approach ensures that the scholars are not only academically adept but also gain essential soft skills.
"This holistic approach will foster confident, well-rounded individuals, who are prepared to navigate and succeed in a rapidly changing and complex world," she added.
Meanwhile, head of Malaysia Brownfield Asset at PTTEP, Al Ashraf Zarif Al Bakri emphasised the company’s commitment to sustainable development in the communities where they operate, with education being one of their key focus areas.
“The scholarship agreement aligns with PTTEP’s dedication to capacity building and supporting the development of a skilled engineering workforce for Malaysia’s energy sector.
“We believe in investing in local talent. By providing these educational opportunities and a clear career pathway, we are contributing to the long-term, sustainable growth of both the community and the nation,” he said.
The scholarship programme is a reflection of Yayasan UTP’s commitment to nurturing sustainable energy talent, while also showcasing PTTEP’s corporate social responsibility efforts in education.
The first cohort of scholars under this collaboration will begin their studies in the upcoming academic intake.
