MACHANG, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The soon-to-be-operational Darul Naim Rice Mill in Kelantan will empower local padi farmers by ensuring their harvests are processed within the state, strengthening both the local rice industry and national food security.

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar, Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan, said the facility in Meranti, Pasir Mas, is part of efforts to support farmers and enhance rice production.

“This initiative aims to benefit Kelantan’s farmers while contributing to a more sustainable and self-sufficient rice supply,” he said after attending the Memacu Kehidupan: Chinese New Year event here today.

State Agriculture, Agri-Food Industry and Commodities Committee chairman, Datuk Tuan Mohd Saripudin Tuan Ismail, said the mill, developed in collaboration with external investors and state agencies, is nearing completion and awaiting final approval to commence operations this year.

“The mill will purchase padi at competitive prices and produce high-quality rice for the nation. With this facility, we can lower costs and improve farmers’ earnings, contributing to the overall sustainability of the local rice industry.” he said when contacted.

Meanwhile, Yayasan PETRONAS reached out to 100 families in Kota Bharu and Machang today through the Memacu Kehidupan: Chinese New Year 2025 programme, held at the Machang District Council Hall.

PETRONAS East Coast Region general manager, Mohammad Ahmad Shazly Ramli, said the initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to uplifting communities, particularly the underprivileged.

“Yayasan PETRONAS aims to support 2,100 families nationwide with total contributions of RM420,000.

“In Kelantan, 100 families have been selected to receive assistance, and we remain dedicated to community-focused initiatives under three key pillars—education, well-being and community development, and environmental sustainability,” he added.
