Melaka Allocated RM452,185 For 103 Youth Programmes This Year

MELAKA, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- State Youth Development, Sports, and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman V.P. Shanmugam disclosed that Melaka allocated RM452,185 to implement 103 youth-related programmes statewide this year.

He said the allocation was disbursed under the Progressive Youth Programme to registered youth associations, sports associations, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

"A total of 60 associations or NGOs benefited from this initiative under the Progressive Youth Programme, with 22 associations in Alor Gajah, 27 in Melaka Tengah, two in Jasin, and another two in other districts.

"This allocation also covered the National Youth Awards, Youth Consultative Council, National Youth Day at the state level, and the Melaka Youth Assembly," he said at the Melaka state legislative assembly session at Seri Negeri today.

Shanmugam was responding to Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar’s (BN-Rim) question on how the RM500,000 allocation for the Progressive Youth Programme was spent this year. 

Shanmugam (BN-Gedek) added that the approved applications under the programme were divided into training and skills development (14 applications), sports management and development (41 applications), Semarak Amal and Semarak Kasih Programmes (24 applications), and others (20 applications).

He explained that the Progressive Youth Programme is intended to nurture the growth of Melaka's youth, equipping them with the skills and opportunities needed to become future leaders.

"The state government urges registered youth associations, sports organisations, and NGOs to step up their efforts in organising development programmes and strengthening collaboration between the state and the community's youth," he said.
